Supporting Our Students After Today’s Tragic News

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

We are deeply saddened by the tragic events that occurred today in Tumbler Ridge. On behalf of our entire school district, I want to extend our heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and community members who are grieving this unimaginable loss. News of this nature is difficult for all of us, and it impacts each person differently.

It is completely normal for children—and adults—to experience a range of emotions, including sadness, fear, confusion, or anxiety. Events like this can also be triggering for those who have experienced trauma or loss in the past. Please know that your child’s emotional well‑being is our top priority.

Support will be available at all of our schools tomorrow for any student who may need someone to talk to. Our counsellors and staff will be prepared to provide a safe, caring space for students to express their feelings, ask questions, or simply take a moment if they are struggling.

If you have concerns about how your child is coping, or if you feel they may need additional support, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your school’s administration.

Additionally, you may access free mental health and wellness same day services virtually through the Foundry BC app.  Foundry Virtual BC | Access Free & Confidential Support

Together, we will continue to care for one another and foster a community grounded in compassion, understanding, and safety.

Sincerely,

Cheryl
